Subaru provides Outback with two motor options and one difficult choice: go with the platform 175-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder and experience its indifferent efficiency, or invest considerably more for one of the top two cut levels that give you access to the punchier 256-hp 3.6-liter six-cylinder.
The Outback’s four- and six-cylinder google are the same for 2018, and the only transmission—a consistently varying computerized (CVT)—has been retuned for better reaction.
